Elon Musk Threatens Support for Republicans Backing Trump’s Bill

Musk Criticizes Bill Amidst Political Uncertainty

Elon Musk has taken to social media, ramping up his criticism against the massive tax and domestic policy package currently making its way through the Senate. He appears to indicate a willingness to support primary challenges against any Republicans who support what he refers to as Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.” In a post on X, Musk stated, “Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” He perhaps even hinted that directly opposing Republican incumbents might become a personal mission, claiming that they would “lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

Political Landscape Shifting for the Billionaire

The billionaire entrepreneur didn’t stop there. He suggested the formation of a new political party called the “America Party” that supposedly cares about the people—a concept he had hinted at earlier this month. His comments come as the Senate holds a flurry of amendment votes on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, with progress towards final approval still needed. Notably, he mentioned that should the bill pass, this new political formation would be established the very next day. Whether Musk can back any primary challengers remains unclear, but it signals he might still have numerous political ambitions after spending around $250 million to bolster Trump and other Republicans last year. Recently, though, Musk hinted he’d consider pulling back on political donations, stating, “I think I’ve done enough.”

Musk’s Concerns Over Bill’s Spending and Environmental Impact

There’s a notable resistance among some Republican lawmakers regarding the bill, with concerns over Medicaid cuts and spending levels voiced by several representatives. Trump’s administration has been aggressive in pushing for the bill’s passage, labelling any failure to do so as a profound betrayal of party values. For weeks, Musk has been vocal about his discontent with the legislation, previously describing it as a “disgusting abomination.” Although he initially appeared to backtrack on some of his criticisms of Trump, he has ramped up his disapproval again recently as the deadline for finalising the bill looms. Interestingly, Trump dismissed their feud, calling Musk a “wonderful guy” during an interview, implying a softer stance despite the tension the two have experienced.
